Destinations PaddleInSpain.com

At paddleinspain.com, we will offer you a large range of destinations: rivers, lakes and coastlines in Spain. We will start with a whitewater destination which is a key river in Spain, the Noguera Pallaresa, one of the longest and largest rivers in the country situated in the heart of the Pyrenees mountains, where the white water activities were first introduced in Spain many years ago.

Later, other white water destinations in the central Pyrenees, South Spain, Galicia and coastal destinations such as the Costa Brava, Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, the Canary islands and South Spain Coast will be added to our destinations.

This is a first step and we are very excited about this project, we believe that you will find a destination to suit you for a weekend paddling or a few days enjoying the warm waters, sun, Spanish food and friendshis of the local people. We will offer you the best accommodation and activity centres in Spain.

Catalonia is an autonomous region within the Spanish state, in the Mediterranean part of Europe. With an area of 31895 square km, it limits on the north with the Pyrenees, France and Andorra; on the east with the Mediterranean Sea; on the south with the Valencia region; and on the west with Aragón. Catalonia has its own government (the Generalitat) and Parliament. The territory is politically divided into four provinces (Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona and Lleida) and 41 regions. Its official languages are Spanish and Catalan.
The Catalan Pyrenees form part of the big European mountain range (going from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean sea), and belong to the Catalan lands. They extend through a large border of about 230km, from the Aran Valley to the Mediterranean Sea. This area is divided into units according the main valleys: Aran Valley, Ribagorça, Pallars Sobirà, Alt Urgell, Cerdanya, Ripolles, Garrotxa and Empordà.

The Catalan lands offer a whole range of attractions to the visitor: beauty of the landscape, villages with their own character that keep an important Romanesque art heritage, the practice of all kinds of mountain sports- skiing, climbing, hunting, fishing,...- as well as the adventure sports – rafting, canoeing, bungee jumping, canyoning, paragliding, kayaking,..- exquisite cuisine and a good service infrastructure.

The river, the Noguera Pallaresa River, a tributary of the river Segre, flows in the southern edge of the plain of Beret, in the region of Val d’Aran, 2000 metres high . It is about 146km long and was one of the first rivers equipped for producing hydroelectric energy on a large scale. The Noguera Pallaresa has its maximum flow during May, with a flow double than the usual. The minimum flow is in August. It's a dam release river so a minimum level for navigation is warranted from 15th March to 15th October. Furthermore, the river holds such events as The European downriver Championship, the World Junior Downriver Championship, the Freestyle Kayak European Championship, and the Freestyle Kayak World Championship.

The region’s cuisine is a typical mountain cuisine, nutritive and self-sufficient. It is mainly based on local products, such as veal, lamb, and pork meat obtained from hunting. You will find plenty of typical menus, served in restaurants with delicious menus at excellent prices.
